The Brief

As part of a motion design course, I was tasked with creating a title sequence for a book. The goal was to capture the essence of the book and translate its core ideas into engaging and meaningful visuals.

For this project, I chose Statistics for Non-Statisticians, an educational science book written for students who didn’t choose to study statistics but have to take it as part of their degree. I created an animated intro to make the subject feel lighter, more approachable, and less intimidating.

Inspiration — The Statistics World

Visual statistics elements

Parabolas in various shapes

Balls from the world of probability, focusing on combining and separating them

An eraser

Magnifying glass, pie chart, arrows

Reference to a design style

Why I chose vector style shapes?

Thinking about the message I wanted to convey, the lightness of the tone, and the connection to a younger audience, I aimed for visuals that are easy to process, where the viewer’s brain doesn’t have to work hard.

All of this led me to choose a clean, vector-based visual style. In this style, the simple and minimal shapes allow the viewer to focus on the motion, the message, and the story itself without distractions.

The Concept

A ball in the world of statistics playfully bounces, moves, and transforms as it explores and interacts with the visual elements around it

  • There's no doubt that both I and the class understand what you mean and the visual world you're aiming for.

  • Keep in mind that the transitions need to be smooth, since you're using a very simple visual language, small details really stand out.

  • Think about what interesting interactions the ball could have with elements from the world of statistics.
